Silverlight 2 gone gold

Last night Scott Guthrie announced that Silverlight 2 is ready, today it has been made available for download. If your eager to see what it's like, head over to the Silverlight-site to grab the bytes. Now - making such a release only weeks before PDC and TechEd EMEA makes only the mind go crazy about what neat surprises those events will reveal :-)

The parallelism of the future

Back in the old days, I was a lucky owner of a dual CPU computer. Back then it was usually just servers that featured and required such power. Since then, I've always been interested in performing multiple actions at the same time, utilizing the power available at hand. Today, dual-core CPU's is normal, we're seeing quad-core CPUs becoming available at a resonable pricing, and soon this will go beyond anything imagined a couple of years ago.

Along with this, a new challenge is presented to developers: How do we take advantage of the multi-core possibilities? Although we've been familiar with multithreading for a while, the possibility of running separate parts of code on its own core is something else.

Yesterday Microsoft released an early preview of ParallelFX - it's available over at MSDN. ParallelFX (Parallel Extensions to the .NET Framework) runs on .NET Framework 3.5 and provides some cool features in
regards of concurrent programming.

Stay tuned for some more posts on this subject in the future...

3D enhancements in WPF 3.5

Last night I held a short presentation at the local .Net usergroup, NNUG Trondheim, about new features of WPF 3.5. UIElement3D & Viewport2DViual3D provides some cool possibilities in regards of having 3D objects enhanced with the same eventhandlers and features as regular UIElements. As for Viewport2DVisual3D, it is now possible to add 2D objects in a 3D world.

I'll soon post the sample from the NNUG-meeting.

PS! This is my first shot at the consept of blogging, hopefully you'll enjoy it as it evolves...

Marillion - Somewhere Else, Live @ Rockefeller

Being a huge fan of Marillion, since the moment h and Pete announced that they would be playing at Rockefeller, Oslo on 23/6/2007, at the listening party of their upcoming album back in February I've been looking forward to this event.

After attending the vorspiel featuring Misplaced Neighbourhood at John Dee, Gazpacho made a great performance upstairs at Rockefeller. Although it had been raining like hell the whole day (not that it would matter anyways) when Marillion entered the stage to the opening beats of Splintering Heart there was no doubt in my mind. This truly was going to be something to remember. The band was joyful and happy and did what they do best - entertained their audience in a great way. Except for some jerk calling for Kayleigh throughout the entire show, this was a perfect night.

The setlist:

Splintering Heart
The Other Half
You're Gone
Thankyou Whoever You Are
Afraid Of Sunlight
Fantastic Place
Most Toys
Somewhere Else
Waiting To Happen
Marbles III
The Damage
Between You and Me
King
Separated Out
The Space
Neverland

Turn it on again...

At the time 20.15, 01/07/2007, Genesis entered the stage at Amsterdam Arena. What a show they presented. Instant goosebumps!

The stage backdrop featured more than 9 million LEDs, 15 meters high, 55 meters wide. Along with the surrounding light-ribs, this was the perfect scenery for the evening.

The setlist of the show was:
Behind The Lines/Duke's End
Turn It On Again
No Son Of Mine
Land Of Confusion
In The Cage/The Cinema Show/Duke's Travels
Afterglow
Hold On My Heart
Home By The Sea (1&2)
Follow You Follow Me
Firth Of Fifth/I Know What I Like
Mama
Ripples
Throwing It All Away
Domino
Drum Duet
Los Endos
Tonight Tonight Tonight
Invisible Touch
----------------------
I Can't Dance
The Carpet Crawlers

So this is the blogg...

Whoa. The first blogpost has been added. Eventually, there will be more.
